SFAsia (an initiative of GlobalSF) was happy to partner with Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Accelerating Asia to host a pitching event on September 10, 2019 at the Silicon Valley Bank. The event was also sponsored by the Silicon Valley Bank. The objective of the event was to introduce well-established Asian startup communities from different parts of Asia to the San Francisco Bay Area startup market. The Asian startup groups also got to meet and greet other San Francisco Bay Area investors, venture capitalists and angel investors.
Murat Wahab, Director of SFAsia, had the privilege to attend the 74th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day in San Francisco which also commemorated the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations of The Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America. Last week, Murat Wahab, Director of SFAsia and Don McCormick, Advisory Committee, SFAsia, attended a business investment seminar hosted by investPenang, a non-profit entity of the Penang State Government. investPenang is a one stop agency that provides comprehensive information on Penang’s future investment opportunities and also facilitates the running of a business at every stage including the setting up of a new investment. The initiative of the event was to promote Penang as a prime location of choice for technology, industry and future business setups.

The city of San Francisco held its first ASEAN Tech Summit at the 500 Startups headquarters. The ASEAN event brought together investors, technologists and founders from Southeast Asia or those looking to invest or expand towards Southeast Asia. The main objectives were to introduce a common space for Startups, Investors and Venture Capitalists to integrate & interact with each other, exchange ideas, learn more about the Southeast Asian market & industry, and lastly help build future collaborations.
Murat Wahab, Director of SFAsia, had the grand opportunity to attend and be part of a very special panel for the “Opportunities in Tech in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam” event which included the likes of Eddy Chan, Steve Ong, Janssen Choong and Will Kwon. The event focused on the tech space industry and its rapid growth throughout Southeast Asia. The event was a successful sellout and was organized by Grab (a Singapore based tech company known for its transportation services, online food deliveries and payment solutions).
